Abstract

Journalism is considered the fourth pillar of democracy, but when it is based on values such as truth, impartiality, transparency, and public interest, it becomes more than just a medium of information but a driving force for social change. This type of journalism is called "value-based journalism." This research article focuses on the concept, need, history, development, challenges, and possibilities of value-based journalism.
Today, when journalism often seems to deviate from its original purpose in the pursuit of TRPs, political pressure, and corporate profits, value-based journalism emerges as a ray of hope, in which the journalist's role is not merely that of an informant but that of a moral guardian.
The article ultimately concludes that ensuring ethical education, media literacy, self-regulation, and the independence of journalists are essential to sustain value-based journalism.
