Wartime situations represent highly sensitive and challenging periods for any nation. During such times, the role of journalism extends beyond merely disseminating information; it also contributes significantly to shaping public opinion, fostering social cohesion, safeguarding democratic values, and promoting peace.
In the contemporary digital era, the rapid dissemination of information, the growing influence of social media, and the emergence of artificial intelligence–generated content have created new challenges for journalism. Consequently, maintaining a balance between nationalism, national security, confidentiality, and public interest during wartime has become an increasingly complex task for media professionals.
In this context, value-based journalism operates by placing core principles such as truth, objectivity, accountability, humanity, and ethical responsibility at the canter of journalistic practice. During times of crisis, value-oriented journalism can serve as an effective response to the prevailing crisis of values and ideological polarization in society. This research paper examines the necessity of value-based journalism in wartime situations, the challenges it encounters, and its broader social responsibilities.
