The objective of this research paper is to study the role of the media in disseminating information about government schemes designed for marginalized groups, such as persons with disabilities, in the state of Chhattisgarh. Specifically, this research analyzes the role of regional news channels—News 24 and IBC 24. The study is based on data collected from 400 respondents in Raipur district (comprising 200 persons with disabilities and 200 individuals from the general public/senior citizens) using a structured questionnaire. Additionally, secondary data obtained from the Chhattisgarh Government's Administrative Report (2023–24) was utilized. The study reveals that the media has made significant contributions regarding information about schemes, awareness of rights, social acceptance, and economic empowerment. The regular reporting, special programs, and on-the-ground coverage by News 24 and IBC 24 have expanded the reach of these schemes to both rural and urban areas. In conclusion, the media can be established as an effective and essential medium in the process of empowering persons with disabilities.
