Short-form video content has revolutionised the digital media landscape, with platforms like YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, and Facebook Reels leading the shift from traditional long-form content to bite-sized, engaging videos. These videos have become a powerful medium for entertainment, self-promotion, and information sharing, even influencing public attitudes and behaviour.
With the rise of creator-driven content and algorithm-based recommendations, short videos now dominate social media feeds and shape how users interact with information. This study conducts a bibliometric and network analysis using the Scopus database to evaluate global research trends on short-form video consumption (Reels and Shorts) from 2020 to 2025. The analysis includes publication output, co-occurrence, co-citation, co-authorship patterns, nation cooperation maps, tree maps, and three-field plots.
